About

I paint situations involving ordinary people, objects, and moments I encounter and can’t get out of my head — like an egg salesman standing in the middle of the highway, a man in pain while his girlfriend waxes him, someone lighting a cigarette with a toaster, or the lonely man dressed entirely in black who only comes out at night, drinks coffee, never speaks to anyone, and wanders through a tiny Italian town. Nobody knows his story, but everyone thinks he used to be a great pianist. I also paint things I find disgusting: people walking around with a dirty plastic toothpick in their mouth, a toilet brush, or a clothing line. I paint these people and moments for those who usually walk past them without noticing.

Born in Buenos Aires (1982) and based between London and Argentina, Gaspar Martinez has exhibited internationally in solo and group exhibitions across Argentina, the United States, and Turkey, including presentations with Cosmocosa, PHUYU, the Argentine Consulate in New York, and Ambidexter Gallery, as well as appearances at ArteBA and Contemporary Istanbul. Martinez continued his practice through residencies and exhibitions in New York, Buenos Aires, St. Petersburg, Verona, Sardinia, and Istanbul. His work is held in private collections around the world.
